The Artsmark assessors wrote "Varndean has an exceptional arts offer, it is evident how deeply the school values the role of the arts in young people’s learning and personal development. Over the past year, Varndean’s arts provision has flourished, encompassing 26 performances, 31 clubs, and a significant increase in trips and participation. Students have showcased their talents beyond the school, from the student-led Samba band leading the Brighton Children’s Parade to stunning dance, music, and drama performances in professional venues.

Little Shop of HorrorsVarndean’s wide-ranging curriculum includes exciting options such as ceramics, beatboxing, and music recording, helping to foster creativity and engagement. These opportunities have driven a 25% increase in students pursuing two arts GCSEs, alongside improved outcomes.

The school’s influence extends beyond its own walls, with impactful CPD programs supporting five schools in music and three secondary schools in drama. Varndean’s Gamelan Academy and contributions from its art and ceramics teachers at both local and national levels further underscore its leadership in arts advocacy.

Varndean’s commitment to inclusion is exemplary, with dedicated funding to support disadvantaged students in accessing instrumental tuition, art materials, and theatre work experience.
