A school where individuality is welcomed, celebrated and shared amongst our whole school community. Our whole community benefits from a wide range of learning experiences, alongside a firm belief that a strong community approach to wellbeing gives students the confidence, conviction and courage to exceed their own expectations.
Our broad, exciting and engaging curriculum promotes academic rigour so that all students can stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers both nationally and internationally.
We have the highest aspirations for all of our students, supported by highly trained and motivated professionals in their fields. Our students go on to study at prestigious universities, colleges and excel in the world of study, research and work, as well as maintaining links with students to celebrate their achievements across their whole lives.
Our opportunities for extended learning are second to none. Our arts provision, successful sports teams, our participation as one of the largest cohorts of DofE in the South East as well as our extensive enrichment, entitlement curriculum and specialist schools for Year 7 is what makes Varndean such a unique learning environment.
Student leadership, democracy and student voice are central to the way our school works. We believe that developing leadership skills in all students will help us nurture young adults who, in turn, will become respected, trusted and kind citizens.
We firmly believe and can demonstrate that, “it takes a village to raise a child”. Through our smaller school system, we can offer personalised support to all students and champion students in their academic and pastoral development. We know that the feelings of wellbeing are fundamental to the overall health of a student, enabling them to successfully overcome difficulties and achieve what they want out of life. Our dedicated school based leaders support students as they navigate through their five years with us; getting to know them as individuals and linking with their families to offer a holistic approach. We value the strong relationships that we have with the families in helping shape the lives of our future leaders.
It takes a village to raise a child.
We are a really happy and kind school where student relationships, with each other and staff, are excellent. We have a well established smaller school system, each with their own identity; Lennox, Angelou, Russell, Turing and Ellis.
We are fortunate to be situated at the top of a learning campus with views across Brighton & Hove to the English Channel that inspire great thinking and inspiration for a great school. We work closely with our primary schools, secondary partners and many local community groups to ensure the sharing of best practise.
Varndean is a great place to learn and develop, in friendly, smaller and supportive environments.
